Stuff I’ve been reading in Cusco

When I arrived in Cusco I had spent about three weeks in Arica, Chile. Though I had done a volunteer work-exchange at a hostel there, I realized how exploitative the experience was when things didn’t work out in Perú and I wound up doing a work-exchange here.

It’s expensive to be a geek

Now that I’m older and can afford a few things here and there, I indulge in Netflix, where I can catch up on nerdy shows, and I was once gifted an entrance to Comic-Con in Buenos Aires.

Jobs from hell: that time I tried to be a child actor

I was a total geek during most of my school years. Even though I tried to hide it, I really tried to do my best in school even when I was doodling or didn’t understand what the teacher’s said. The Shoebox

When I was a kid I would watch my relatives go to El Salvador and leave my mother and I behind. She and I would write letters to our family and my aunt and cousin would take them to the rest of our family. Usually I didn’t know what to say. In many cases I only knew who I was addressing through my mother’s stories because I couldn’t remember the sound of anyone’s voice. I couldn’t tell my relatives apart in pictures without my mother’s help.
